Hamilton won the race with an impressive lead after his team-mate and main rival Nico Rosberg suffered a mechanical failure half way through the race.

The British driver crossed the line 30 seconds ahead of Valtteri Bottas, who finished in second.

It was a race filled with incidents from the start when a Kimi Raikkonen suffered a crash that ruled him out of the race.

The win, Hamilton’s fifth of the season, moved him to within four points of his Mercedes team-mate.

And Hamilton was clearly elated with the victory, running over to hug his team after getting out of his car.

“This weekend really shows that for one, you never give up,” he said on the podium. “Yesterday, it wasn’t a case of giving up I just didn’t think I could do the lap – I was shocked the last sector was so fast.

“Coming here today, I had my family with me and the focus, the support of the fans really spurred me on, I couldn’t have done it without them.”

Red Bull’s Daniel Ricciardo took third ahead of Jenson Button.
