They were up on the Downing Street Podium and on our screens nearly every day of the pandemic, quickly becoming household names.

Today, Professor Sir Chris Witty, Chief Medical Officer, and Sir Patrick Vallence, Chief Scientific adviser, at the time gave evidence to the Covid Inquiry.

Sir Chris described lockdown as “a radical thing to do” with Sir Patrick agreeing that it was “a big new idea”.

Sir Chris also talked about the abuse he suffered as a result of being in the public eye.
