Lords inflict multiple defeats on Sunak’s Rwanda bill

Political Editor

Members of the House of Lords have prolonged their stand-off with Ministers over the Rwanda Bill by inflicting a series of defeats on the Government this afternoon. Opposition Lords say it should be up to the courts to decide if Rwanda is a safe place to send asylum seekers rather than ministers.

The defeats means the Bill will be back in the Commons after Easter when MPs are expected to remove all the changes that the Lords made today.
