Menelik Shabazz: measuring the impact of a Black film-making pioneer

The acclaimed film-maker Menelik Shabazz has died at the age of 67. He was best known for the award winning feature film Burning an Illusion – which was only the second British feature to be directed by a Black filmmaker. Colleagues described him as a “true pioneer” – and paid tribute to his important contribution to the Black narrative. Ayshah Tull reports.
