Rishi Sunak told MPs that calls for jihad are a threat to the Jewish community and to Britain’s “democratic values”.
It follows questions over the way the Metropolitan Police in London dealt with a pro-Palestinian rally at the weekend, after video appeared online showing a man at a protest by the Islamist Hizb ut-Tahrir group repeatedly chanting ‘jihad’.
The Met Police chief said the laws on hate crimes may need to be redrawn.
A tube driver has also been suspended after appearing to lead passengers in a chant of “free Palestine”.
