Met reviews sex cases after prosecutions collapse

Special Correspondent and Presenter

Scotland Yard is urgently reviewing about 30 rape and sexual abuse cases which are on the verge of coming to trial, after two prosecutions collapsed in the last week.

The Met said more sex cases would also be examined, but denied that systemic failures meant officers were breaking the rules set up to ensure a fair trial. Justice Minister Dominic Raab described it as “deeply worrying”, declaring that the principle of British justice was at stake.
