Millions trapped in Idlib prepare for worst

The fate of Idlib, Syria’s last rebel-held area, is in the balance after the leaders of Iran and Russia backed an offensive to recapture it.

Turkey’s president appealed instead for a ceasefire. At their summit in Tehran, Vladimir Putin demanded the “total annihilation of terrorists in Syria”, while Iran’s Hassan Rouhani said the United States must immediately leave.
