Mo Farah will be hoping to win his second London 2012 gold in the 5,000m final this evening – with Team GB striking gold in kayaking.
Farah, who was the gold medal winner in the event at the World Championships in Daegu last year, goes into the race – which starts at 1930 – as favourite.
Winning today will reward the Somalia-born 29-year-old with a second gold medal after his victory in 10,000m a week ago.
His main rival could well come in the form of Ethiopia’s Dejen Gebremeskel who took bronze at Daegu, has picked up a number of gold medals this year, and who qualified fastest in the semi-finals.
The first medal of the day for Team GB came from Buckinghamshire’s Ed McKeever, who won gold in Saturday’s kayak 200m sprint final.
The 28-year-old broke the record with a time of 35.087 seconds in the quarter finals. competition will come from Canadian Mark de Jonge – the fastest qualifier in the semi-finals.
Team GB will take on Ireland in one of the five boxing finals that take place today, with Hull boxer Luke Campbell taking on Ireland’s John Joe Nevin for the bantum weight gold.
Campbell was the 2011 World Championship silver medallist, and European champion in 2008. Nevin is a former World Championship bronze medallist and made his way to tonight’s final by beating reigning bantum weight world champion Lazaro Alvarez. The pair fight at 2045.
One of Team GB’s poster boys, Tom Daley, will be hoping to win Olympic gold, and escape the disappointment of fourth place in the synchronised diving, when he competes in the individual 10m platform dive today. The semi-finals start at 10am with the final at 8:30pm.
Standing in his way will be Qiu Bo – the mercurial Chinese diver with an intimidating amount of gold medals to his name. The 19-year-old won golds at two events of the World Series this year, and four last year. He won the World Cup in the 10m dive this year and the World Championships last year. Daley last beat his nemesis in 2009.
The male Team GB hockey will hope to replicate the success of the female hockey team yesterday in their bronze medal match against Australia at 3:30pm. The women’s team won 3-1 against New Zealand to claim bronze.
