More Conservatives investigated over suspicious bets on election timing

Cathy Newman: A leading Conservative campaign aide and two parliamentary candidates are now being investigated by the gambling watchdog – over alleged betting on the general election date.

The latest probe involves Conservative director of campaigning Tony Lee – who’s taken a leave of absence – and his wife Laura Saunders. Labour and the Lib Dems have called for her to be suspended. Even cabinet minister Michael Gove admitted the situation didn’t “look great”.
