‘Most information from Russian is propaganda’, Ukrainian MP says after Zaporizhzhia power plant claims

The UN’s atomic energy watchdog has warned of the potential for a “major nuclear accident” after a series of drone attacks on Ukraine’s Zaporizhzhia power plant.

UN inspectors confirmed three drone strikes on Sunday had caused damage to one of the reactors – although structural integrity hadn’t been compromised. Russia – which controls the site – says Ukraine was behind the attacks, while the Ukrainians, in turn, have accused the Kremlin of carrying them out as part of a disinformation campaign.

At least 8 people have been killed and around 14 injured after Russian strikes on Ukraine’s second city Kharkiv. Russia has been stepping up its bombardment of the city – which is just 30 kilometres from the border – for the last month.

We spoke to the Ukrainian MP Lesia Vasylenko, and asked her about Russia’s claims that the attacks on Zaporizhzhia were carried out by Ukraine.
