For some people it’s a celebration of British tolerance and multiculturalism. For others, it feels like their communtiy has been hit by a “whirlwind” of new arrivals. Now MPs, led by Labour’s Chuka Umunna are trying to design a new immigration system in the wake of the Brexit vote, including compulsory English lessons for those who arrive without speaking the language, and more powers to local regions to control immigration in their area. But are the plans workable?
