Nepal teeters on edge of Covid-19 health emergency as Indian variant spreads

While India is still battling to contain its Covid emergency – neighbouring Nepal is considering declaring a health emergency as cases surge alarmingly by the day.

Just a couple of months ago, there were around 200 new daily cases.

That now stands at more than eight thousand among the highest rates of infection in the world.

The country’s healthcare system is buckling under the stress of the pandemic, and the vaccine supply it had been relying on – from India – has dried up.
