Trials are about to start of a new brain scanner which could revolutionise the treatment of children with epilepsy – and is already being hailed as the most exciting development since the MRI.

The new scanner – using quantum physics – gives an unprecedented insight into the workings of the brain.  It could be used to help people with dementia or other neurological conditions – and researchers hope it could even detect abnormalities in babies as young as six months old.
