Has the Gaza war finally spilled over to Lebanon?
The leader of Hezbollah seems to think so. In his first televised address since thousands of pagers and walkie talkies used by his rank and file were turned into mobile bombs, Hassan Nasrallah described the audacious attack as a major security and military blow. He also vowed revenge against Israel.
Lebanon was already on edge – two days of attacks leaving 37 dead, almost 3,000 wounded and people scared of their own phones and laptops.
Now, with Hezbollah’s leader accusing Israel of crossing all red lines and Israel announcing a “new phase” of the war, the spectre of all-out combat seems closer than ever. Israel says none of its forces have crossed the border, but Hezbollah strikes have already killed two of its soldiers in northern Israel.
