Channel 4 News obtains exclusive footage showing Usain Bolt’s anger at himself after being disqualified for a false start in the 100m final. Keme Nzerem reports.
Bolt can be seen shouting at himself in the corridor as he is ushered out of sight. Bolt has set his sights on breaking own world record, running the 100m in under 9.58 seconds, set at the last World Athletics Championship in Berlin 2009. He may now have to wait until the London 2012 Olympics for that chance again.
Meanwhile the new 100m world champion, and Bolt’s teammate, Yohan Blake tells Channel 4 News that “I think my foot moved a bit”, but that he doesn’t think his twitch caused Usain Bolt to false start.
Bolt, he told Sports Reporter Keme Nzerem, was “excited and ready to go” – he was “pumped up”. But he doesn’t really know what caused the most infamous false start in athletics history.
He said his training partner has shown him “tremendous respect” since taking the gold in Sunday’s dramatic final.
Blake says Bolt told him he’d no longer be calling him “junior”. He’d refer to him from now on as “senior”.
He still has mixed feelings about Bolt’s disqualifications though – knowing that Bolt himself was looking forward to pulling the other Jamaicans along.
The friends – and now rivals – will race together in the 4 x 100m relay on Sunday – with Blake third, and Bolt anchor.
And when they next face each other in the 100m – the new World Champion says “it’s gonna be some race!”
