NHS under strain as multiple services declare critical incidents

Presenter

The Welsh Ambulance Service has urged people to drink in moderation and reduce demand on services after declaring a critical incident.

More than half of the trust’s ambulance vehicles were waiting to hand over patients outside hospitals, with 340 calls waiting to be answered at the time the incident was declared.

Another NHS Trust in the West Midlands also made a similar announcement, while England’s top doctor warned this flu season could become the worst ever experienced.

We’re joined by Matthew Taylor, who was the No. 10 policy director under Tony Blair, as is now chief executive of the NHS Confederation.
