North of Tyne mayor resigns from Labour saying party loyalty ‘broken down in the north east’

The North of Tyne mayor Jamie Driscoll has resigned from the Labour party after it blocked him from running for mayor of the north-east.

Mr Driscoll – who’s been described as the ‘last Corbynista in power’ – said he plans to run against Labour as an independent when the new Mayoralty is elected next year if he can raise £25,000 by the end of August.
