Northern Ireland police carried out ‘industrial level spying’ on journalists high court hears

There’s a well established convention that journalists never reveal their sources.

At a high court hearing today, police in Northern Ireland were accused of spying on two investigative reporters by trawling their phone data to see who they were in contact with.

The hearing – known as an ‘investigatory powers tribunal’, was told of police surveillance tactics described as “Orwellian”.
