Northern Ireland power sharing deal deadline moved

Home Affairs Correspondent

Talks to restore power sharing in Northern Ireland have been given an extension till Monday – after the parties missed today’s deadline to reach an agreement.

The Democratic Unionists and Sinn Fein have accused each other of refusing to compromise on key issues, including an Irish Language act to give Gaelic speakers official protection. If there’s no deal – Northern Ireland secretary James Brokenshire could set another deadline, call another snap Assembly election or re-impose direct rule.
