The head of the energy regulator Ofgem has told Channel 4 News that net zero targets cannot be achieved without a major overhaul of planning laws.
Jonathan Brearley has been tasked with upgrading the nation’s grid infrastructure to allow more clean energy supplies to come online – a crucial step in achieving the legally-binding target of net zero by 2050.
He’s now calling on ministers to cut back planning red tape to help the project stay on track.
