Paralympics: What to watch today – Wednesday 05 September

London 2012 double gold medallist Sarah Storey is among today’s hopefuls as ParalympicsGB’s cyclists take to the road.

ParalympicsGB’s medal-winning track cyclists will hope to add to their haul when they road cycling events start today.

Storey, Mark Colbourne (pictured, left), Jon Allan Butterworth and Shaun McKeown, who between them won three gold medals and five silver medals on the track, will race in the individual time-trial events.

In total there are ten members of ParalympicsGB cycling in finals on the road today across eight races.

When to watch

First up will be Butterworth, racing in the C5 time trial at 10:30am, followed by McKeown at 11am in the C3 events and Colbourne in the C1 race at 11:49am.

The afternoon will see a number of ParalympicsGB’s female cyclists take to the road with Sarah Storey and Crystal Lane racing in the C5 time trial at 12:02, and visually impaired cyclist Lora Turnham with her pilot Fiona Duncan racing at 2:52pm

Paralympics’ GB’s hand-cyclists take over at 4:21pm, with Rachel Morris in the H3 time trial at 4:21pm and Karen Darke in the H1-H2 time trial at 4:32pm.

The last ParalympicsGB cyclist of the day in David Stone, racing on a tricycle, in the mixed T1-T2 time trial at 4:32pm.

More swimming medals?

However, it is not just the cyclists where Great Britain and Northern Ireland can hope for medal glory.

A number of ParalympicsGB’s swimmers will return to the Aquatics Centre, including Sam and Oliver Hynd, and Thomas Young in the first race of the day, the 200m individual medley under the SM8 classification.

Silver and bronze medallist Hannah Russell will compete at 10:55am in the heats of the 100m S12 backstroke, with the final at 7:01pm. Bronze medallist Matthew Whorwood will also race at 11:04am in the 100m SB6 breaststroke and bronze medallist Louise Watkin who races in the 50m S9 freestyle alongside Amy Marren and Lauren Steadman at 11:40am.

On the track

The Paralympic Stadium will also feature a number of finals with David Devine and Sally Brown competing at 7:30pm and 9pm respectively.

Katrina Hart, Bethy Woodward and Jenny McLoughlin will also hope for a place in the final of the T37 200m. The qualifying round is at 10:49am and the final will be at 8:42pm.All three competed last night, alongside Olivia Breen, in the 100m T35/T38 relay – in which they won bronze (pictured, right)

Paralympics poster-boy Jonnie Peacock will also be racing against Paralympic legend Oscar Pistorius in the 100m T44 qualifying race.
