Poet and campaigner Benjamin Zephaniah dies aged 65

“A truly gifted and beautiful human being”, “a generational poet, writer, musician and activist” and “a proud Brummie”. Just one of the tributes to Benjamin Zephaniah, who has died at the age of 65 – eight weeks after he was diagnosed with a brain tumour.

The dub poet was known for his works on racism, poverty and refugees. He also starred in the hit show Peaky Blinders. His family said he leaves a joyful and fantastic legacy.
