Poet Ben Okri on modern society

He has penned a eulogy to Grenfell Tower and – on Brexit – decried a world where it is “easier to fall apart than to stay together”.

The lyrical poet and novelist Ben Okri has written passionately about citizenship too, describing Britain as a nation “forged by successive layers of immigration…each adding something new and unexpectedly wonderful.”

Now he’s collated  Rise Like Lions, a collection of inspiring poetry from down the ages that speaks to us today.
