Man arrested after Leeds policewoman shot

Police have arrested a man wanted in connection with the shooting of a female police officer in Leeds.

West Yorkshire Police launched a manhunt for 37-year-old James Leslie after the shooting incident on Wednesday morning, which resulted in the injury of the police officer.

The force said two uniformed officers were attending a routine call during a disturbance in the Hyde Park area of Leeds, shortly after 4am on Wednesday, when they were confronted by a man who fired at them.

“One female officer received serious but non life threatening injuries. A male officer was uninjured. The female officer is currently undergoing treatment in hospital,” said a police spokesman.

It’s beleived that the 33-year old officer was hit in the head, neck and right hand by a single blast from a shotgun.

Mr Leslie was arrested at 10.10am in the Headingly area of Leeds.

The officers had been called to an address at Cardigan Road, in the Hyde Park district of the city.

Police launched the manhunt after a man was seen leaving the area on a bicycle. They had warned the public not to approach the man.
