Police officer shot dead in London police station

Boris Johnson, the Home Secretary and the Metropolitan Police commissioner have all paid tribute to the police sergeant who was shot in the chest by a suspect at a custody centre and was pronounced dead later in hospital in the early hours of this morning.

He is the eighth police officer to be shot dead in the UK since the year 2000.
