Post-lockdown UK economy not bouncing back as quickly as hoped

The great hope was that the massive economic downturn brought about by the virus would be temporary.

That once the lockdown was eased, we would all start spending again.

But the latest monthly GDP figures were way short of the bounce back hoped for.

While the drop in GDP during the lockdown was the largest in 300 years, the uptick in May was just 1.8 per cent.
