We’ve waited more than three years for a review into the Government’s anti-terror programme and its findings are that it is not living up to its name.
The Prevent Programme is supposed to spot and then turn people away from extremism. But the report’s author William Shawcross claims it is doing too little to tackle so-called “Islamist extremism” and “not dealing with those who operate below the terrorism threshold”.
The review was ordered by former Home Secretary Priti Patel in 2019 but it has proved controversial – and been boycotted by independent groups including Amnesty international.
