The Duke of Edinburgh thanks hospital staff for the “excellent care” he has received as he leaves Papworth hospital after treatment for a blocked coronary artery.
Prince Philip smiled and waved as he left Papworth Hospital in Cambridgeshire at 9.25am in a dark Range Rover, after spending four nights in hospital with heart problems.
He had emergency surgery for a blocked coronary artery on Friday night, after being taken to hospital by helicopter with chest pains.
A Buckingham Palace spokesman said: “On departure, Prince Philip thanked the staff at Papworth for the excellent care he has received during his stay.
“He is very much looking forward to rejoining his family.”

Philip will now return to Sandringham, the Queen’s private Norfolk estate. It is not yet clear how active he will be when he arrives, or whether he will attend Sunday’s service at St Mary Magdalene Church on the estate after the serious health scare the normally active 90-year-old has yet suffered.
He missed the Christmas Day service at the church, an annual tradition for the royal family, as well as the Boxing Day shoot, which he normally leads.
Despite these setbacks, he was said to be in good spirits and was visited by members of the royal family including the Duke of Cambridge and Prince Harry on Christmas Day.
