Prisons Minister says time to ‘get back to basics’ after damning inspections

After damning reports on the conditions in prisons across England, the newly appointed Prisons Minister has conceded a need to get “back to basics” to transform the Prison Service in the next five to ten years.

MPs also heard from the governor of Liverpool Prison, who said she’d had to get more prisoners inoculated against hepatitis B so they could tackle the rat-infested rubbish in the prison yard.
