Public caning of gay men in Indonesia condemned

The capital of Indonesia, Jakarta was hit by a twin suicide attack that killed three police officers and injured 11 other people yesterday. In recent years Indonesia has seen a resurgence of such attacks by Islamic State sympathizers. These bombings mark the deadliest attack in a year in the country with the biggest Muslim population in the world.

It follows widespread international condemnation earlier in the week after two men were publicly caned 85 times. Their crime? They had been caught having sex in the northern province of Aceh where Sharia law is enforced. A warning – in this report from our Asia Correspondent Jonathan Miller there are images that some of you might find distressing.
