A woman who was jailed for illegally obtaining abortion tablets to end her pregnancy during lockdown is to be released from prison early.
Carla Foster admitted taking the pills after misleading an abortion provider into believing she was seven weeks pregnant instead of thirty two. She was sent to prison for 14 months with a further 14 months on licence.
The Court of Appeal has reduced her sentence, meaning she can now walk free. The case sparked protests after the initial sentencing, with campaigners calling for a change in the law.
