Ramaphosa succeeds Zuma as ANC leader

From trade union leader to wealthy businessman, Cyril Ramaphosa is now likely to be South Africa’s next head of state after he was elected as the new leader of the ANC. In a bitterly fought race, the 65 year old deputy president narrowly beat veteran politician Nkosazana Dlamini-Zuma, the ex-wife of current President Jacob Zuma. Celebrations broke out on the streets of Johannesburg as the result was announced.
