Richest oil producers should pay climate tax, says Gordon Brown

The former Prime Minister Gordon Brown has called for the world’s richest oil states to pay a windfall tax – to help poorer countries deal with the climate crisis.

Mr Brown said countries like Saudi Arabia, the UAE and Qatar had all benefited from the soaring price of oil – and wants a 3% levy on export revenues to create a twenty five billion dollar annual fund for the global south.

We spoke to Mr Brown – and began by asking how this plan would work.
