Rishi Sunak faces leadership questions ahead of looming election

Rishi Sunak has insisted ‘All conservatives are united’ despite reports of rebellious MPs plotting to oust him to avoid general election disaster.

He said he was “not interested in Westminster politics” and instead was focused on the economy, which he claimed had “turned a corner”.

And having ruled out a May election last week, this evening his allies are briefing that there won’t be a summer election either. Our political editor Gary Gibbon reports.
