South Yorkshire Police says Pc Hassan Ali – believed to have been placed on restricted duties during investigations into the child sex abuse scandal – has died in a car crash.
PC Hassan Ali, who had been with the South Yorkshire force for 18-years, had been on foot when he was hit by a car at around 10.15pm on Wednesday 28 January.
It is understood that complaints had been made about him relating to the Rotherham child sex abuse scandal and he was under investigation by the Independent Police Complaints Commission (IPCC).
According to the Sheffield Star, a complaint had been made against Pc Ali after he asked a sexual exploitation victim in Rotherham on a date on two occasions.
The paper said that it had held off on publishing this story before his death after they were told by detectives that the officer was the subject of a monitoring operation.
South Yorkshire Police said it could not confirm Pc Ali’s involvement in the IPCC investigation.
But it said in statement: “South Yorkshire Police received four public complaints relating to alleged misconduct of an officer. The force referred the matter to the Independent Police Complaints Commission.”
