Rough sleepers forced to wait weeks for shelter during pandemic

More than 90 percent of rough sleepers have been offered safe accommodation within the last month, the Local Government Secretary said today – describing them as particularly vulnerable to Covid 19.

But Channel 4 News and the Bureau of Investigative Journalism have found that in London, many rough sleepers have been forced to wait for weeks as councils and the Greater London Authority struggle to find rooms.

It’s estimated as many as 500 are still on the streets.
