A toxic row between leading surgeons at a top London cardiac unit contributed to a higher mortality rate, according to a leaked report. The report found that the team at St George’s hospital had been engulfed by a “dark force” – putting patients at risk. Hospital offiicals said they were taking urgent action to deliver improvements – and insisted their cardiac surgery service was safe.
