Police ‘neutralise’ Moscow school hostage taker

Police say they have “neutralised” a gunman who is reported to have killed a police officer and a teacher after taking dozens of children hostage at a Moscow school.

Police said the gunman, reported to be a senior student at the city school, had been detained.

It was reported by Russian news service Russia Today that the gunman had threatened a security guard with a rifle, before going to a classroom and taking over 20 teenage students hostage.

When police approached the classroom it is reported that the gunman opened fire, killing one police officer and wounding another.

The motives for the attack are not clear.
