Ruth Davidson resigns as Scottish Conservative leader

In her resignation speech she insisted she had stared Boris Johnson in the eye – and he assured her he was trying to get a Brexit deal.

To lose one Tory leader over Brexit looks like misfortune. To lose two begins to look like carelessness.

As for losing three? Well, today Ruth Davidson completed the trifecta by stepping down as Scottish Conservative leader after almost eight years in charge.

She not only cited a desire to spend more time with her family, but also the “conflict” she felt over Brexit.

But in her resignation speech she insisted she had stared Boris Johnson in the eye – and he assured her he was trying to get a Brexit deal.
