Rwandan government tried to silence opponents, Human rights watch report claims

Critics of the Government’s plans to deport asylum seekers to Rwanda say the country’s record on human rights shows it isn’t a safe place to send people.

A recent investigation by Human Rights Watch accuses the Rwandan government of trying to silence opponents – even those living overseas – using tactics ranging from kidnapping to extrajudicial killing.

The government in Kigali has denied the claims, calling it a “distorted picture of Rwanda which exists only in their imagination”.
