Saudi Arabia wins World Cup bid despite human rights fears

Saudi Arabia has been confirmed as the host of the 2034 men’s football World Cup finals – despite its dismal human rights record.

World football’s governing body Fifa has drawn criticism for effectively ruling out any rival bids for the tournament.

Saudi Arabia has been accused of trying to ‘sportswash’ its international reputation via its lavish investment in football, boxing and golf in recent years.
