A teacher from Bolton, whose younger brother is missing in Syria, is remanded in custody after being charged with helping others to prepare acts of terrorism.
A science teacher from Manchester has appeared in court charged with preparing to help others commit acts of terrorism in Syria.
29 year old Jamshed Javeed did not apply for bail and was remanded in custody after a brief hearing at Westminster magistrates.
Mr Javeed teaches at Sharples High School in Bolton. His younger brother, 19 year old Mohammad Azzam Javeed, is missing in Syria. The teenager had been due to start a chemical engineering degree, but instead travelled to the conflict zone last Autumn.
It’s understood he went same time as another man from Manchester, Anil Khalil Raoufi, also known as Abu Layth. Channel 4 News reported earlier this year that Abu Layth was killed in Syria.
Jamshed Javeed was first arrested last December and was due to answer bail on March 5th. He was then re-arrested last Wednesday along with three others suspected of supporting the jihad effort in Syria.
The three others, two men aged 18 and 29 and a 21-year-old woman, remain in police custody for questioning. A number of properties in Manchester and Oxford were searched.
