Scotland to freeze rent and rail fares to combat cost of living crisis

For some businesses, any promise of help from the new prime minister will already come too late.

In Aberdeen where lucrative oil and gas giants thrive, smaller companies are already closing and many fear a domino effect as energy bills continue to go up.

But for some people there was an offer of help – today the First Minister of Scotland announced emergency legislation to freeze rents, describing the cost of living crisis as a “humanitarian emergency”.
