Sir Isaac Julien has been using giant video installations and lyrical documentaries to challenge our views of race, sexuality and class ever since the 1980s.
His early works were collaborations with this Channel in its rebellious infancy.
Julien now lives in California but he still deals with the same subjects.
Last year he was knighted and now he’s been honoured with a new exhibition celebrating four decades of his work at the Tate Britain.
