Snow chaos: Trains cancelled, roads blocked and schools closed

Blizzard conditions and high winds across large swathes of the country have brought more widespread disruption – with trains cancelled, roads blocked and hundreds of schools closed.

Motorists on the M62 were stranded overnight – with mountain rescue teams coming to the aid of some drivers.

And forecasters have warned that more hazardous weather is in store tonight.
