A special counsel has been appointed tonight by the US Attorney General to investigate the alleged mishandling of classified files by President Biden – after documents were found at his former private office as well as his home in Delaware.

A second batch of files were discovered at a storage space in his garage.

Mr Biden told reporters that he took “classified material seriously” – and pledged full cooperation with the investigation.

While leading Democrats insisted they had “full faith” in President Biden.
