Steve McQueen and Bianca Stigter on Amsterdam’s dark history of Nazi occupation

The Oscar-winning ’12 Years a Slave’ director Steve McQueen and his wife, historian Bianca Stigter, have brought Amsterdam’s Nazi history out of the shadows in their new film, ‘Occupied City’.

The four-hour long documentary is based on Bianca’s book on the Nazi occupation of the city where they live.

It may examine the past, but the couple told us that the rise of the far right in Europe wasn’t far from their minds.
