Storm Darragh left tens of thousands of homes without power after millions of people were warned to stay indoors after a rare red weather warning was issued and alerts were sent to mobile phones.
A ‘risk to life’ alert came into effect at one o’clock this morning in parts of Wales and south-west England with yellow and amber warnings in place for much of the UK.
A van driver was killed by a falling tree on a dual carriageway near Longton in Lancashire.
Gusts of up to 93 miles per hour were recorded in Capel Curig in North Wales. And 92 miles per hour in Aberdaron on the Llyn Peninsula.
