Theresa May came to Brussels yesterday hoping for generous offers. But the only one that’s emerged is a “Brextension”.
It would see the transition period being extended, and was proposed by Donald Tusk, the EU President as a way of solving the Northern Ireland border issue.
Mrs May may be forced to look this particular gift horse in the mouth as MPs from her own party are furious and have made it clear it’s a present they don’t want. There was also a tough message from the French President Emmanuel Macron, who said it wasn’t up to the EU to make concessions to deal with British politics.
