Sunak and Meloni unite to demand tougher action from EU on illegal migration

Rishi Sunak has teamed up with his Italian counterpart Giorgia Meloni to demand tougher action from the EU to stop illegal migrants reaching Europe.

They made the appeal while attending a European Political Community summit in Spain – calling for tougher measures to smash people-smuggling gangs.

The summit ended this evening without an agreement on migration, and with leaders still divided between the demands of their electorate and the reality of deals with despots.
